This accessibility statement applies to www.royalfree.nhs.uk.

This website is run by Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the text on this website as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your phone, computer or tablet easier to use, depending on your needs.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website was tested for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 level AA) compliance in October 2023.

It passed all non-content tests, but there are some parts of this website around content which are not fully accessible:

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • some PDF documents, such as meeting board papers, are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • embedded videos do not have captions or transcripts

PDFs and other documents

The majority of new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

However, documents such as our trust board papers contain hundreds of pages including images, tables and charts, making them difficult to make fully accessible or convert them to HTML web pages.

We are committed to working to make these documents as accessible as possible.

Some other PDFs or Word documents published on our website since September 2018 which are currently not accessible to screen reader software, will be accessible by the end of December 2023.

Patient information leaflets

As of 18 January 2024, from our register of patient information leaflets, 46 are on our website as PDFs. A further 67 are translations versions. The latter will remain on this website as accessible PDFs.

WCAG 2.2

This website will be tested against the WCAG 2.2 standard (AA), which was published in October 2023, before the end of October 2024 at the latest.

If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, contact rf.communications@nhs.net.

The accessibility toolbar is located at the bottom of every page.

It's labelled ‘show accessibility tools’ and you can click on it to view our accessibility options. You can then click on ‘hide accessibility tools’ to hide them again.

The toolbar’s options include:

  • text size
  • contrast

You can also translate any page on this website using Google Translate.

To do this, click the yellow 'translate' button in the top-right corner of any page. Please note, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the translation.

Documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

However, if there is a specific document that you would like to request in HTML format we will do our best to oblige where possible and practicable — please get in touch by email or phone.

Most new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards, however, some documents will not be fully accessible.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
