The pharmacy team consists at the Ian Charleson Day Centre (ICDC) of HIV specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, all highly experienced in the use of antiretroviral medicines used to treat HIV infection and its related complications.
The pharmacy, which is on the ground floor of the Royal Free Hospital, dispenses all the antiretrovirals used to treat HIV infection, as well as supportive treatments for associated conditions.
Medication adherence counselling is offered to patients on antiretrovirals, and a home delivery service for HIV medication is available.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the pharmacy team aim to deliver quality care to both inpatients and outpatients living with HIV.

Your prescription is usually produced when you attend a clinic appointment or when your blood test results are ready. The average waiting time to collect your prescription at our in-house pharmacy is 30 minutes.
Please note we cannot provide other, non-HIV medication. Please speak to your GP if you need other medication.
Please note that some medication may interact with your antiretrovirals. This may include medication prescribed by other healthcare professionals, herbal medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and recreational drugs.
The ICDC pharmacy team are on-hand to provide you with the information and support you need to take your medication regularly. Please contact the team for advice on drug interactions, side effects, medication adherence and any other queries about your antiretroviral medication.
If you are stable on treatment and have an undetectable viral load, we offer a home delivery service for antiretroviral medication for ICDC-registered patients.
This is arranged through an external homecare company called Sciensus. They require a minimum of 14 days’ notice and will only deliver to your home address with your approval on a pre-arranged date.

Their opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, and weekends from 8am to 4.30pm.
It is very important that you never run out of medication. You should always have around a month’s supply of medication at home when you attend an appointment in clinic.
If you are running low and will run out of medication before your next appointment, please call the ICDC and ask to speak to the pharmacy team or specialist nurses for an emergency supply. You may need to collect a prescription from the ICDC pharmacy.
We offer a one-to-one medication adherence counselling service once you first start antiretrovirals, and ongoing medication support.
If you require intensive adherence support, you can make an appointment to discuss your treatment details with a pharmacy specialist.
