Patients due to undergo stent or pacemaker procedures at the Royal Free London can now view information about their treatment in the comfort of their own home thanks to new videos produced by the cardiology department.
The videos, available to view on the trust’s website, provide useful information about what happens when a patient arrives at one of the trust’s hospitals and also explains the procedure in question.
Not only does this give patients more time to digest the information and consider what questions they may have, but patients will also be easily able to share the videos with relatives and friends.
Dr Tim Lockie, consultant cardiologist at the Royal Free London, said: “We feel that these films are a great step forward in clearly communicating with our patients and their relatives the reasons that they are coming in for these often complex procedures”.
The videos will make patients’ hospital experience smoother as they will have a better idea of what to expect when they arrive and will already have a basic understanding of their planned treatment.
As well as being available online the cardiology department intends to send DVD versions to patients booked in for stent or pacemaker procedures.
