Two members of staff from the Royal Free Charity have donated their wedding dresses to their own charity shops and are calling for staff from the hospitals and members of the public to do the same.

Alison Kira and Laura Muir, who both work at the Royal Free Charity, have donated their old wedding dresses to the charity’s own charity shops that support the Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals.

Laura Muir, shops project manager said: “We really wanted our charity shops to join in with the royal wedding festivities.  Our shops change their window displays every fortnight and what better way to celebrate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding than to have our own wedding celebration windows complete with wedding dresses.  My dress has been hanging in my wardrobe for years taking up space and it’s not like it’s going to be worn again by me.

“By following my example not only will you be helping a bride-to-be to purchase an affordable dress, but it will also raise money for our hospital charity.”

Alison Kira, head of project development,  said:  “My wedding dress has been sitting in my garage for years gathering dust. After I got married I had it dry cleaned and preserved in a box where it has sat untouched for 18 years.  I opened the box last week and the dress is in pristine condition. It’s such a shame for it to be boxed up in the garage when someone else could get the benefit of wearing it and I can help a good cause.

“If anyone has a dress they would like to donate please drop it in to one of our four shops in the local area.  We’re also appealing for all wedding related attire including suits, hats, shoes, mother of the bride and bridesmaid dresses.”
