Garden at CFH prior to redevelopmentTwo under-used outdoor spaces in the Highlands wing at Chase Farm Hospital are being transformed into specialist therapeutic gardens to enhance patient recovery.

One garden has been designed to support dementia patients and includes a street with shop fronts, street lamps and individual front gardens all designed to provoke memory recall and provide a stimulating environment. The second garden is based on a Japanese garden which provides peace for those recovering from stroke or brain injury and can be used for therapy sessions.

The Mayor of Enfield, Councillor Patricia Ekechi, has devoted her Mayor’s charity appeal fund to various charities working for dementia sufferers and their families. Councillor Ekechi is being locked into the garden on 15 April to raise money for the dementia garden. The Mayor will be using the space as an outdoor office for the day and must raise £5,000 before she will be released. Cakes and refreshments will be on sale to help the Mayor reach her goal.

Councillor Ekechi said: “This is a great project and I am so excited to be working with the Chase Farm Charity to help the garden become a reality.

“The Charity are aiming to raise £120,000 to redevelop the gardens. They have raised just over half of the money and, with your help, I want to help them get closer to their goal. Please help me support this fantastic cause.”
