Students, patients and members of the public are invited to find out about ground-breaking research being carried out at the Royal Free Hospital at the open day for the UCL Institute of Immunity and Transplantation (IIT) next Wednesday morning.
Some of the world’s top scientists will be talking about their research, including the development of new types of medicines to treat cancer, transplant immunology and immunity in the liver.
There will be an interactive stand session, which will allow visitors to understand more about diabetes, how viruses work and the immune system. At the open day students will have the chance to learn about how to pursue a career in medical research. They can meet doctors and researchers and can hear about clinical trials for new medicines taking place at the hospital.
Professor Hans Stauss, the director of the IIT, said: “We would like to welcome students keen to learn more about a career in medical research, and patients and members of the public who would like to find out more about what happens at the IIT. We are developing new ways of treating conditions like haemophilia and cancer, our scientists are making discoveries about the causes of type 1 diabetes and we have greater understanding about our immune systems.
“We had very positive feedback from those who attended the open day last year. They said they found the event informative and inspiring so I would really like to encourage those interested in a career in medicine or medical research to come along.”
The open day will rbe on Wednesday 6 July 2016 from 10am-1pm and will be held in the William Wells Atrium, on the ground floor of the Royal Free Hospital, Pond Street, London, NW3 2QG.
