Plans for the multi-million pound redevelopment of Chase Farm Hospital have taken a significant step forward with the submission of a further planning application to Enfield Council, to be followed by a second new application this week.

The first application, known as a section 73, reflects alterations to the original proposals. These include the retention of Highlands wing for use as rehabilitation wards and also a change in the shape and orientation of the proposed building.

The building’s new shape will mean greater flexibility to expand the hospital in future to accommodate additional services as needed, with the ability to increase the total space dedicated to healthcare by over 70%.          

David Sloman, Royal Free London chief executive, said, “After listening carefully to the views of members of the public and our staff, we have now submitted our final proposals to Enfield Council.

“If accepted, these proposals will mean a fantastic new hospital that will meet the needs of the local community for years to come, as well as new homes and school places in Enfield.”

The proposals are set to transform the outdated existing buildings into a brand new hospital that will allow staff to provide world class care to the local community. All existing services will continue to be provided but in greatly improved facilities.  

The second new application, due to be submitted this week, cover matters not dealt with in previous applications, including the appearance of the new hospital. The trust has released a set of artist’s impressions of the proposed new building, which are available to view on the trust website.

Following the submission of these applications the trust is due to hold a series of drop in events at the hospital to give people the opportunity to study the plans in more detail and share their views. Full details will be announced in the next week.
