A new film launched today explores how a kidney service at the Royal Free Hospital is helping patients in their teens and twenties manage their conditions.
Made by the charity Kids Kidney Research, the film is being launched today to mark World Kidney Day. It explains how the transition service provides young adult patients with additional support during this challenging time.
The kidney transition service is for patients with a kidney condition who are moving from the children’s to the adult service. Patients often find this time challenging as they are asked to take more responsibility for their care and might have other pressures to deal with such as exams or starting university.
A key aspect of the transition service is the support provided by the young adult worker, Gemma Hockey. She helps patients manage their condition and can provide support in other aspects of their life.
