The first stage of construction works for the Pears Building, new home for the UCL Institute for Immunity and Transplantation, starts today (12 March). The recent closure of the link road between Rowland Hill Street and Pond Street has allowed the pruning and removal of trees to progress in readiness for the main works to begin.

Over the next six to eight weeks the contractor, Willmott Dixon, will complete a number of tasks to set up the building site. This includes the erection of secure hoardings, installation of office, changing and catering facilities for the building team, and preparing to commence the ground works for the new building.

Patients, hospital staff, neighbours and the wider local community will be kept updated throughout the building period.
