A consultant ophthalmic surgeon working at the Royal Free Hospital has been named a Rising Star by The Ophthalmologist magazine.
Radhika Rampat joins nine others worldwide on ‘The Ophthalmologist Power List Rising Stars program’.
As well as her work at the Royal Free Hospital, Radhika is also associate academic director of the refractive surgery alliance (RSA) global fellowship network and Chair of the American European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS) Green Working Group (GWG).
Radhika said: “I’m proud to have been named a Rising Star. I have felt incredibly welcomed by the consultants and the wider team at the Royal Free Hospital. Their support has enabled me to work twice as hard! It’s a great place to be.
“One of the things I’m currently involved in is working in partnership with NCL to try to develop a single point of access, so patients can be referred to secondary care via their optician rather than having to follow the pathway of optician, GP and then hospital. This would be hugely beneficial for patients by helping to speed up the route to seeing a specialist.
“I’m also looking at the sustainability side of things such as medication optimisation and recycling. There is so much we can do to cut down our waste.”Radhika added: “I am also passionate about seeing women succeed and get promoted in ophthalmology. I want to demonstrate that you can have a successful career as well as having a family life.”
Rohit Jolly, consultant ophthalmic surgeon and clinical service lead for ophthalmology at the Royal Free London, said: “It is a real pleasure to have Radhika as a consultant colleague and see how much she does to make the department a better place both for the patients and our staff. She has always gone the extra mile to ensure the best outcomes and I am excited to see what the future holds for her.”
